‘Manzanita Library’ Proposed as New Library Name

Phoenix Public Library is pleased to announce that Manzanita Library has been selected as the proposed name for its new library at Estrella Civic Space, a planned park and civic complex situated at W. Lower Buckeye Rd. between 91st and 99th Ave.

The name was chosen through thoughtful consideration and community input and reflects Phoenix’s local heritage and the spirit of growth and learning. Continuing the library’s tradition of naming locations after Arizona Sonoran Desert flora, the new Manzanita Library will honor the region’s natural environment.

The proposed name will be presented to the City of Phoenix Library Advisory Board, followed by a review of the City of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office’s Heritage Commission. The Historic Preservation Heritage Commission will make an official recommendation to the Phoenix City Council for final approval.

Thank you to everyone who shared feedback and voted. Community input helps ensure that this important public space reflects the values, history, identity, and diversity of the Phoenix community. In the coming months, Phoenix Public Library will provide updates and additional opportunities for community feedback as the project enters the design phase.

Phoenix Public Library appreciates your involvement and looks forward to creating a library that connects with residents and inspires pride.
