ROOFING SCAM
Information Provided by the Police Department
| This scam consists of the suspect looking like a repairman or roofer. They usually have a pickup truck and may even have a magnetic business sign on the doors. They approach the victim and usually say that they just completed work in the area or they just inspect the victim's roof etc. The victim is then told that the suspect needs some money up front to purchase supplies and/or pay wages. The suspect then offers to drive the victim to the bank. After money is withdrawn, the suspect might then take the victim to a business to buy supplies. The victim is then taken back home and the suspect says that he will return tomorrow to do the job and is never seen again. A variation to this is that the suspect may actually get up on the roof and act like he is doing some work. The job is either not done or is poorly done with poor materials. |
