TIPS FOR COMPLETING THE

2008 NEIGHBORHOOD BLOCK WATCH

GRANT APPLICATION

 

Analyze your budget carefully.

  • DO NOT REQUEST PROHIBITED ITEMS!!!! Grant funds may not be used to buy food or beverages of any kind, including consumable prizes or incentives in the form of food or beverages; motor vehicles; surveillance equipment, including night vision and listening devices; weapons of any type, including firearms, pepper spray, mace, stun guns, etc.; bulletproof vests; vehicle overhead emergency light bars; parties and recognition dinners; awards; entertainment, including field trips and entrance fees for in-state or out-of-state amusement and water parks; and raffle prizes.
  • Cellular phones purchased with Neighborhood Block Watch Grant (NBWG) funds for the purpose of neighborhood patrols and Block Watch activities can be funded up to a maximum limit of $480 per phone for the grant year. Additionally, groups must justify the need for the number of phones requested. NBWG funds cannot be used to pay phone charges for long distance or special fee (900 numbers) phone calls.
  • Do not forget to include hidden costs on your grant budget. For instance, construction projects may require the purchase of permits.
  • Check your numbers! Make sure the budget request is added correctly.

Make sure your organization is listed or registered.

  • In order to apply for a Neighborhood Block Watch Grant, all neighborhood/homeowners'/Block Watch organizations must be listed with the City of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department or have a Block Watch group registered with the Phoenix Police Department by Friday, February 1, 2008, at 4 p.m.
  • If you are not sure your organization is listed, contact theNeighborhood Services Department at 602-534-8444 or the Police Department at 602-495-0597.

Obtain all necessary signatures.

  • Every Neighborhood Block Watch Grant application must have at least two signatures. If you are applying with another organization, a representative from each organization must sign the application.

PLEASE NOTE: Individuals who reside or work at the same physical address or who are related (including by marriage) CANNOT SIGN THE SAME APPLICATION.Members of the Neighborhood Block Watch Grant Program Oversight Committee and City of Phoenix Police employees acting as representatives of the Police Department cannot be signers on applications.
