Traffic Jam!

The Ahwatukee area has an over abundance of traffic during certain times of the day. To reduce frustration during your commute, plan on leaving home at least 15 minutes earlier than you normally do to allow time to deal with traffic collisions, construction, etc. If you are involved in a traffic collision on the street, call police at either 602-262-6151 or 9-1-1 if someone is injured. If the vehicles can be moved out of the street, move them to a nearby parking area to allow the other traffic to pass. If they cannot be moved, leave them and wait to the side of the road.

If a traffic accident occurs on the freeway system, call the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) at 602-223-2212.

When such things occur, nobody likes to be delayed or have to take alternate routes, but sometimes it is required for safety of police and fire personnel.

Traffic Safety

Speed limits in the Ahwatukee area are 40 MPH on major streets except for some small sections of Chandler Boulevard, which are 45. School zones are 15 MPH from the first sign to the last line of the crosswalk. Fines are doubled. Keep your speed at something reasonably close to the posted limit (except in school zones, where there is no tolerance), and you will not have a problem. To avoid the stress of rush hour traffic, leave home 15 minutes earlier than you normally do. This will give you time to wait on traffic jams, collisions, road construction, etc. When you have to merge or change lanes, look carefully and then allow plenty of time and room for other drivers so you don't force anybody to make panic stops, etc. A little courtesy goes a LONG ways.
