Phoenix Planned Major Street Restrictions - Updated Feb. 17

Special Events

DOWNTOWN PHOENIX MARDI GRAS CELEBRATION – SATURDAY, FEB. 18

The celebration will take place on Central Avenue from Jefferson to Washington streets.

Central Avenue from Jefferson to Washington streets is scheduled to be closed to stage this event starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, through midnight Sunday, Feb. 19.

During this event, Central Avenue through traffic will be detoured at Jefferson Street to Second Street.

Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

THE IMS ARIZONA MARATHON – SUNDAY, FEB. 19

This marathon will take place on Sunday, Feb. 19, in the West Valley beginning in Buckeye.  It will make its way through some of the West Valley communities and into Phoenix.  Once in Phoenix, it will travel east on Camelback Road from El Mirage Road to 99th Avenue.  At 99th Avenue, the marathon will turn north and make its way into the Westgate City Center in Glendale.

During this event, Camelback Road eastbound curb lane will be restricted from El Mirage Road to Ballpark Boulevard (111th Avenue) where the runners will head north by the ballpark, then back to Camelback Road where they will travel on the westbound lane to 99th Avenue.

City of Phoenix police officers will handle traffic control within the city of Phoenix.

RAGNAR RELAY DEL SOL 2012 – FRIDAY, FEB. 24 TO SATURDAY, FEB. 25

The Ragnar Relay Del Sol is an annual 200.5 mile relay run between Wickenburg and Tempe, Ariz.  It sports 351 teams of 12 team members each, ranging from the newly joined to the highly trained.  This year’s run is scheduled to start 6 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, and continue day and night for about 24 hours before entering Tempe.

Runners are estimated to enter Phoenix at New River Road around 10 p.m.  There are two sections within Phoenix: on New River Road just north of Carefree Highway to the I-17 Black Canyon Highway and on Cloud Road between Gavilan Peak Parkway and Via Puzzola.

RoadSafe Traffic Systems will provide all temporary traffic devices.  Police officers will be onsite to help facilitate traffic control.

Broadway Road – Seventh Avenue to Seventh Street, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Services Department project, completion scheduled for March 2012.

  • Cave Creek Road south of Greenway Parkway, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Services Department new sanitary sewer installation, completion by February 2012.
  • Jefferson Street – Central Avenue to First Street, partial restriction due to CityScape/Hotel Construction, completion scheduled for May 2012.
  • Lower Buckeye Road – 35th to 43rd avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Design and Construction Management project, completion scheduled for early 2012.
  • Washington Street – Seventh to 15th avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Design and Construction Management project, completion scheduled for February 2012.
  • Seventh Avenue – Dunlap Avenue to Hatcher Road, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Design and Construction Management project, completion scheduled for February 2012.
  • Seventh Avenue – Vineyard Road to Southern Avenue, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Services Department and Design and Construction Management project, completion scheduled for February 2012.
  • 24th Street – University Drive to the Salt River Bridge, partial restriction due to a Development Services project, completion scheduled for February 2012.
  • 48th Street – Baseline to Broadway roads, partial restriction due to a Southwest Gas Corporation project, completion scheduled for February 2012.
  • 51st Avenue and Van Buren Street Intersection, partial restriction due to a Southwest Gas Corporation project, completion scheduled for February 2012.

These restrictions represent only the major planned activities reported to the Street Transportation Department’s Right of Way Management Office.  This listing does not reflect closures or restrictions due to unexpected events such as flooding, traffic collisions, fires, utility failures or other emergencies.
