Acacia Library to Receive Designation as Free Solar Installation Site

May 25, 2011

Sunnyslope Landmark Will Receive Up to 5kW of Free Solar Panels,
Earned Through Community Participation in the Arizona Solar Challenge

On Thursday, May 26, community leaders will join Arizona SmartPower and Phoenix City Councilman Bill Gates to announce that the Acacia Library has been designated to receive up to 5kW's worth of free solar panels, which Sunnyslope is eligible to earn through the Arizona Solar Challenge.

The Arizona Solar Challenge is a community solar campaign of Arizona SmartPower, made possible in partnership with Arizona Public Service. In Sunnyslope, one of the Challenge's pilot communities, every 100 residential solar installations will earn 1kW of free solar panels for the Acacia Library, up to 5kW.

The Acacia Library, located in the heart of Sunnyslope, narrowly survived being shut down during the last round of budget cuts. The free solar array will represent the community’s commitment to both solar power and the library and will help cover a portion of the facility's electric bills.

WHEN: 11 a.m. Thursday, May 26
WHERE: Acacia Library, 750 E. Townley Ave.
WHO: Phoenix City Councilman Bill Gates
SmartPower President Brian F. Keane
City Librarian Toni Garvey
