Domestic Violence Information

It is estimated nearly 1/3 of American women will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime(AZ Coalition Against Domestic Violence).  Domestic Violence can take many forms including physical and sexual violence, threats, isolation, emotional insults and economic deprivation.  These acts are forms of coercive control and are used by abusers as ways to dominate their partners and get their way.

Domestic Violence is seen in all areas of society.  Victims of domestic violence can be married, in a dating relationship.  Domestic Violence does not respect age, sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity or race.  Victims can be the child that witnesses violence in his/her home, the teenager with her first boyfriend, a middle-aged woman or a grandmother in a dating relationship.  

Social status is not a determinant for Domestic Violence.  Victims come from all walks of life, they can be; rich or poor, highly educated or have an eighth grade education, be a doctor or a laborer, a movie star or your average joe.
