Green Learning Campus

The city formed a partnership with Maricopa Community Colleges to develop the Green Phoenix Learning Campus, a combined community college and charter high school focused on green jobs of the future. The Green Learning Campus will address the educational needs of adults and high school students with a curriculum focus on improving the environment and using energy more efficiently.

The campus will be located in the heart of downtown Phoenix, just a few blocks away from the city’s light rail. Two new sustainable green schoolhouses with 7,000 square feet of classroom space will be added to the site. The existing buildings will be retrofitted to make them sustainable and environmentally responsible. The green schoolhouses will be the first structures in the nation built through the nonprofit organization Brighten a Life as part of its Green Schoolhouse series. Brighten a Life's local consultants, Cause and Effect, plan to obtain donations from sponsors to cover the cost of building materials. The charter high school is slated to open in the fall of 2010.
