Greening Homes and Businesses

Green Phoenix - Weatherization imageGreening Homes and Businesses will develop new and enhance existing programs that focus on water and energy conservation for homes and small businesses by engaging private and philanthropic partnerships. The work includes energy and water audits, in addition to development of subsidies that will encourage homeowners and business owners to consider implementing a variety of conservation methods, such as increased insulation, replacement of old fixtures, irrigation system improvements, low-flow shower heads, compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs, and weather stripping. Implementation of these energy-saving tools will result in a reduction in energy usage and water consumption resulting in financial savings for home and business owners.

Phoenix has received funding for programs that meet the goals of Greening Homes and Businesses from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), as follows:

    • Weatherization Assistance Program – This program provides a one-time grant to homeowners and renters to provide for replacement of existing building components and improvements to reduce energy consumption. Improvements include: repair/replacement of heating and cooling systems, insulation and duct sealing, and weather-stripping and caulking. The city recently received $7.2 million to fund this program, which is administered by the city’s Neighborhood Services Department.
