City Planning

Phoenix is the fifth-largest city in the country and the largest capital city in terms of population, and continues to witness spectacular growth. By 2030, the Phoenix-metro area is projected to grow 70 percent, reaching 6.3. million people.

All of that predicted growth requires careful planning to mitigate impacts to the quality of life for our residents. In these pages can be found information such as the current Phoenix General Plan, a  long-range guide readopted in 2002 that addresses many issues important to residents. Since the current plan is approaching the ten-year update required by Arizona State Statute, information about the PlanPHX update process can also be found here.

Future planning efforts regarding the city geographically -- and in important areas as recreation, transportation and public safety -- are contained in the links at left.
