Information

Non-collection times and unacceptable items
If you are between collection cycles and are unable to wait for the next collection, or if you have items that you must dispose of yourself (appliances with CFC's, tires, demolition debris, etc.), call the city of Phoenix for disposal facility information at (602) 262-7251 or visit the Disposal Division website.

Appliances with CFC's or refrigerants
As a resident of Phoenix, you may take your own refrigerator, freezer, heat pump, dehumidifier or water cooler to a city disposal facility for recycling. Any remaining CFC material is removed and the appliance is dismantled and sold as scrap metal. In addition the Appliance/Electronics collection and recycling program is available to Phoenix residents. For a nominal fee, city crews will come directly to your home to retrieve certain appliances and recycle them properly. Call Solid Waste Customer Service at 602-262-7251 to set up a collection time.

Cardboard Moving Boxes
Cardboard can be recycled in your blue recycling container at your home. However, especially with moving into a home, residents may have several large cardboard boxes that need to be removed quickly. The city of Phoenix has a program for collection of large numbers of cardboard boxes. First, residents must flatten the boxes. Second, stack them neatly on the front edge of your property behind and parallel to the sidewalk or curb. Do not place cardboard on the sidewalk or in the street. Finally, call Solid Waste Customer Service at 602-262-7251 to arrange a special collection of these materials. Make sure to mention the approximate number of boxes needing collection. Boxes are taken to the recycling center and are not available for reuse or purchase.

Tires
As a resident of Phoenix, you may take no more than five automobile tires to a city of Phoenix disposal facility. Tires are collected in a separate bin and are not allowed to be disposed of in city landfills by state law. Maricopa County collects the tires from the city for proper disposal or recycling. For more information, call Solid Waste Customer Service at 602-262-7251.
